MEPCO Tariff (2026)

The electricity bill that you pay as a MEPCO consumer is calculated based on MEPCO tariffs. That’s why you can calculate your monthly MEPCO bill on your own if you understand MEPCO tariffs 2026 and MEPCO 1 unit price 2026.

Once you are able to calculate your bill on your own, you will be able to effectively manage your electricity units consumption. And if you become good at managing your electricity consumption, you can easily reduce your bill.

That’s why it is important for you to understand MEPCO tariff categories and MEPCO tariffs because it will help you to save your money on MEPCO bill.

How to Find Your MEPCO Tariff Category

Before you read the tariff tables below, you should know which category you fall in. Your category decides your per-unit rate. You can find it on your MEPCO bill, in the “Tariff Category” box. For example, it may show A-1A(01).

Following are the main things that decide your residential category.

Protected vs Non-Protected Consumers

This is the biggest thing that changes your bill. A protected consumer pays much lower rates, because the government gives them a subsidy.

  • You are a protected consumer if you used 200 units or less in every month of the last six months.
  • If you crossed 200 units in even one of those months, you become non-protected. Then you pay the higher rates without the subsidy.

So two people who use the same units can get very different bills. One may be protected, and the other non-protected. On a protected bill, you will also see a “Subsidy” line that brings the total down. This subsidy is the main reason a protected user’s bill stays low.

Single Phase vs Three Phase

This is about your connection type, not your usage.

  • A single-phase connection is the normal connection for most homes.
  • A three-phase connection is used for homes with a heavy load, like those running large motors or many air conditioners.

Your minimum monthly charge is higher on a three-phase connection.

What A-1 Means

A-1 is the code for a general residential (domestic) supply. So when you see A-1A(01) on your bill, it simply means a residential single-phase connection with a sanctioned load under 5 kW.

What are MEPCO Tariffs 2026?

MEPCO tariffs 2026 are the rates that MEPCO charges its consumers for electricity units consumption in 2026. These rates are determined by NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) which works under the GOP (Government of Pakistan).

These rates include fixed charges and variable unit prices based on usage (protected / non-protected) and connection type (single / three phase). For Time of Use (TOU) meters there is different rate for peak hours and off-peak hours.

In the following these MEPCO tariff rates for all type of consumers are presented:

F Seasonal Industrial Supply Tariffs

  • 125% of relevant industrial tariff: Under this MEPCO tariff category the consumer will be charged 25% more than the normal industrial electricity rate. For example: If the normal industrial tariff is Rs. 40 per unit, then 125% means: 40 × 1.25 = Rs. 50 per unit.
  • Moreover the consumers have the option to convert to regular tariff and vice versa. This option can be exercised at the time of the connection, or at the beginning of the season. But once it’s exercised, the option remains applicable for at least one year.

How Your MEPCO Bill Is Calculated (With an Example)

Many people do not know how their units turn into rupees. So let us take a simple example.

Note: This example is approximate. It shows only the electricity charge, so you can see how the slabs work. Your final bill also has taxes and monthly adjustments, which we explain in the next section. Always check your own bill for the exact amount.

Let’s say you are a non-protected residential consumer with a single-phase connection, and you used 250 units in a month. MEPCO does not charge all 250 units at one rate. It charges them in slabs, step by step. Using the “Applicable Variable Charges” rates from the A-1 table above, the calculation looks like this:

  • First 100 units × Rs 7.74 = Rs 774
  • Next 100 units (101 to 200) × Rs 10.06 = Rs 1,006
  • Last 50 units (201 to 250) × Rs 12.15 = Rs 607.50

So the electricity charge comes to about Rs 2,388.

This is not your final bill yet. After this, MEPCO adds taxes and other charges on top, which we explain below. But now you can see the main idea: the more units you use, the higher the slab, and the higher your rate per unit.

This is also why crossing a slab matters. If you keep your units just below the next slab, you pay a lower rate on those units. So watching your usage near the end of the month can save you money.

Extra Charges on Your MEPCO Bill (Taxes and Surcharges)

Your electricity charge is not your full bill. MEPCO adds some extra charges and taxes on top. This is why your bill is higher than just the cost of your units. Following are the main extra charges you may see:

  • Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA): This charge changes every month. It covers the change in the cost of the fuel used to make electricity. Some months it is added, and some months it is zero.
  • Quarterly Tariff Adjustment (QTR Adj / DMC): This is added every three months. It adjusts for changes in fuel prices, capacity charges, and system costs.
  • Sales Tax and Electricity Duty: The government adds these taxes to your bill. On your bill you may see them written as a percentage, for example “Taxes 15.25%”.
  • TV Fee: A fixed PTV license fee is added to most home bills.
  • Minimum Charge: Even if you use zero units, you still pay a small minimum monthly charge. For a single-phase home, it is Rs 75 per month.

Because these charges change every month, your final bill can be different even when your units are the same. So do not be surprised if your bill goes up a little in a month when you used the same units.

How to Stay a Protected Consumer

Since protected consumers pay much less, it is worth staying protected if you can. To do this, keep your usage at 200 units or less every month. If you cross 200 units in even one month, you lose your protected status, and you pay the higher non-protected rates for the next six months. So near the end of the month, it helps to check your units in the MEPCO Smart App and stay under the limit if you are close.

FAQs

MEPCO tariff is the rate at which MEPCO sells electricity to its consumers. These tariffs are determined by NEPRA.

QTR Tariff Adj/DMC in a MEPCO bill stands for Quarterly Tariff Adjustment / Distribution Margin Charges. It is a mandatory charge applied every three months to adjust for fluctuations in fuel prices, capacity charges, and system usage costs. It covers the cost difference in power generation and supply.

GoP (Government of Pakistan) tariff units for MEPCO are the subsidized or rationalized electricity rates applied to specific consumer categories to manage costs. These rates are approved by NEPRA. These GOP tariff units rate are uniform across DISCOs.

MEPCO Tariff A-1a(01) is the residential (domestic) electricity tariff for single-phase consumers with a sanctioned load of less than 5 kW.

MEPCO tariff A-1b(03)T is a domestic (residential) electricity tariff for three-phase connections (a-1b). It is generally utilized for higher-load residential consumers.

Conclusion

It is important to manage your electricity usage wisely if you want to reduce your electricity bills. A profound understanding of MEPCO tariff and tariff rates helps you in doing this.

Once you know about all the tariffs like fixed charges, peak/off-peak rates, and minimum monthly charges, you can easily predict your monthly MEPCO bill accurately. Once you can predict your bill, you can manage your electricity usage as per your own budget.
